Card Patterns : Sketch 128

Hi,

Time to compete !!! I am participating in the Card Patterns Challenge  from http://cardpatterns.blogspot.com where card designers post a sketch of a card pattern and card makers have to follow the designed sketch and create a card. The best ones selected by the designers will get a prize... Sounds cool ... This is the first time I am participating..
The sketch for this week is something like this ..

And this is the card I made following the sketch ...

I have tried lots of things for the first time - the ribbon bow (took a lot of pain to make it :( ) , the stitches around the border of the card. The main attraction which is the Paper Quilled petals around an embedded stone is made from the left overs of the Paper Quilled Rakhis I had recently made. I dedicate this card to my mom as "Worlds Best Mom !!!" :))

Paper Quilled Rakhis

Rakhi is basically a sacred thread of protection embellished with the love and affection of a sister for her brother and the day is celebrated as "Raksha Bandhan". I enjoyed making Rakhis using Paper Quilling technique !. Although it was painful and time consuming i know my brothers will be really happy after I tie them on their wrists :) Awaiting for your comments :

Happy Raksha Bandhan to all of u !!!

(Rakhis available for sale. For details please drop a mail to me at shruti.11186@gmail.com)

    Paper Quilling

    Paper Quilled Frame

Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is glued at the tip and the coil shaped, these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns.Paper Quilling is often used today to decorate scrapbook pages, wedding invitations, greeting cards and craft boxes. It continues to grow in popularity because of the inexpensive cost of materials.

Materials  : Quilling Tool , Paper is also needed and comes precut, but you can also cut your own, in 1/8” strips.Glue is needed to put your project together. There are many places online where you can purchase paper quilling kits that contain everything you need to start quilling easily. Mentioned below are all my post related to Paper Quilling. Enjoy and Keep Quilling !

    Quilled Water Lily With Ducks

Hi !! I am back with some more of quilling patterns. This time i tried something different in quilling and i am really happy making this. Let me explain in short how did i make this.

The water lily flower : Center of a flower is a fringed flower. Around it another multi-colored fringed flower is attached by gluing two different color strips together. Next step is to create a basic quilled tear drop to create an outer petal. The flower is completed by arranging multiple tear drops around the fringed flower.

The Leaves : For the leaves cut of a heart shape from a green color paper. The center and sub veins are made by the folding the paper. The center vein is made by folding the leaf to create two parts .For each sub vein fold the leaf from edge to the center of the leaf.

    The flower in detail :

The Ducks : The head of the ducks is made of a tight roll of a quilled strip and the body slightly pressing a quilled tear drop at one end. The ducks in detail "

Wild Flowers : Each wild flower at the left hand side is made of a quilled bee hive. Three petal are attached to to the bee hive.

Do try it out . You will enjoy this as i did. Before i end my post, i want to "Wish you all a very Happy Diwali". Will be back with some more projects soon.

Quilled Humming Bird on Golden Daffodils

Its been a weeks time i haven't worked on anything new as i was busy at my office. Today as its weekend i decided to learn something different which is "Husking". Instead of rolling of paper , the Husking method is used in which paper is winded around pins to create various shapes.
But i simply twisted the paper strips side by side without any tools to create these golden daffodils.
Just try it out...You"l enjoy it.

The roses are made by twisitng the paper by 45 degrees around the quilling tool. 3 Roses are joined and sticked on the card and they look really beautiful.
